Piping software notes for managers comparing record control, review time, and issue-ready exports.

Checklist

Compare record control, QA readability, and export quality before the team books a vendor demo.

Check the current record before another issue goes out

If the same file keeps drifting out of date or arrives at QA in rough shape, this checklist should show it quickly.

Drawing match

The record should still match the current drawing issue.

Status clarity

Inspection, repair, and release states need to be obvious.

Handoff readiness

QA should not need a cleanup pass before review starts.

Check the row first

If the record cannot be matched back to the drawing and the job, the rest of the file is already harder to trust.

  • Joint ID is present.
  • Drawing or spool reference is current.
  • Duplicate rows are resolved.

Check the fields that carry the job

The file should show the people, dates, and status changes that keep work moving without hidden side notes.

  • Welder or owner
  • Date and procedure
  • Inspection and release status

Check the handoff

The last pass should answer one question: can QA open the file and review it without rebuilding anything?

  • Open actions are obvious.
  • Exports keep row order.
  • The next owner is clear.

Questions QA and fabrication leads ask before rollout

How often should this checklist be used?

Use it at setup, before issue, and any time the record changes hands.

What is the fastest warning sign?

A row that no longer matches the latest drawing or status is usually the fastest way to lose trust.
